Is it currently possible to stop and reverse the damage that is being caused to the planet? If we consider where the world currently stands in terms of resource depletion and greenhouse gas emissions, it’s tempting to think that this situation cannot be improved. However, the WWF (World Wildlife Foundation) has taken a look at where things are today and where they are going and they believe that the world has more than enough sustainable energy and technology.
The WWF believes that the world needs to apply six key solutions when it comes to energy. Improving energy efficiency, stopping forest loss, developing low emission technologies, developing flexible fuels, replacing high carbon coal with low carbon natural gas and equipping fossil fuel plants with carbon capture and storage technology.
In the past huge environmental progress has been made. For instance, the protection of threatened wildlife species such as the bald eagle or the peregrine falcon. But the world needs to act quickly according to the WWF. In fact, in the next five years! We need to bring about change and repair and this will take a combined effort from individuals, businesses and governments. Reversing all effects may not be possible but people can still make a difference.
You household is a great place to start making changes. By living a green life really does help change the world on a global level. Every change you make has a ripple effect. By reducing your energy consumption means that less fossil fuels need to be burnt. Sure, these effects seem minimal but when large numbers of people start to make changes this creates great waves of change.
